Examine the risks of climate change impacts and hazards
Include a climate-related multi-hazard risk assessment to better protect the community during flooding and extreme weather emergencies
Identify actions to respond to and adapt to the changing climate and hazards
Engagement Objectives
Maple Ridge is committed to developing an innovative, action-oriented Climate Action Plan tailored to the community's unique characteristics and needs.
The plan will identify actions that will help the City mitigate and adapt to climate change while continuing to improve infrastructure and services for residents.
The engagement objectives to support developing the Climate Action Plan are:
Understand local experiences of past climate change impacts, barriers to accessing applicable services, and what measures are being taken to build resilience and reduce household emissions
Better understand priorities for different climate mitigation and adaptation actions
Develop a Climate Action Plan that is relevant to Maple Ridge community members
Share outcomes from the project and keep the public up to date on progress
Engagement Phases
Phase 1 Engagement (May - August 2024)
The first phase of engagement will raise awareness, understand residents’ experiences with climate change impacts, and better understand community priorities for climate mitigation and adaptation actions. Feedback from this phase will help shapethe City’s Climate Risk and Multi-hazard Risk Assessment.
Phase 2 Engagement (Fall 2024)
This phase will focus on gathering feedback on possible climate mitigation and adaptation actions and identifying the trade-offs these actions may have. The results of this phase will inform the prioritization of the Climate Action Plan goals and provide details relating to specific actions.
Phase 3 Engagement (Early 2025)
The third phase of engagement will focus on reporting back on how the input received helped shape the Climate Action Plan.
