Thank you to everyone who participated in our community engagement!
We received almost 550 survey responses to help us learn about what residents would like to see in the new playground features and park amenities.
Next Steps
We will analyze the input received and share a summary of the findings in the coming weeks. Staff will then design a park concept informed by the input and begin a request for proposal process to determine a playground equipment supplier and construction timeline.

Community Engagement 1
Programming
The first phase of community engagement was conducted from Mar 27 - Apr 15, 2025 and focused on what playground features and park amenities the community would like to see in Volker Park. An online survey (also available in print) was offered.
Thank you to everyone (almost 550 submissions!) who participated. We will be sharing a summary of what we learned in the coming weeks.
With the input received we will develop designs and plan for construction to begin winter 2205/spring 2026.
Background
Volker Park is located at 21131 123 Avenue, beside Laity View Elementary school.
Due to significant vandalism to the playground equipment in early 2025, the climbing structure must be replaced.
The City is proposing to replace the playground structure so that the park can continue to offer a safe play environment that meets the needs of local families.
As part of the community engagement process, we would like to hear from you on:
- What play features you would like to see in the new playground?
- Any other park amenities would you like in Volker Park?
Take our survey by April 15, 2025!

Level of Engagement - Involve
The engagement for this project is at the "involve" level of the International Association for Public Participation's (IAP2) Spectrum of Public Participation. This means that we will work with you (the public) to ensure that your concerns and aspirations are directly reflected in the project. We will also provide feedback on how public input influenced the decision.
Learn more about how we use the spectrum as a foundation for community engagement here!
