Thank you to everyone who participated in our survey!

Congratulations to our prize draw winners of a $50 Maple Ridge Downtown Business Improvement Association gift card, valid at over 90 local businesses.

Engagement - Phase 1

Over June and July 2024 we invited residents, businesses, and organizations to provide input as we begin to develop the City’s first-ever Community Engagement Framework.

Through the hundreds of responses received, we'll be able to get a better idea of how people in our community prefer to give feedback, get information, and learn about City services.

We heard from voices around our community to get a better understanding of what’s important when it comes to community engagement, any challenges people face when trying to engage, and how they want to have their say.

Input was provided by:

  • completing an online survey by July 30, 2024.

  • in-person at local events

  • meetings with a number of local community organizations that reflect the diversity of our city

Engagement - Phase 2

The second phase of engagement will begin in the fall 2024 with the draft Community Engagement Framework being shared for community input.

About the Community Engagement Framework

The City's Community Engagement Framework will support our goal of being an open and engaged organization - offering meaningful opportunities for residents, businesses, and organizations to provide input into decisions.

The engagement framework will be developed over 2024 based on the established practices of the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2), which provides a spectrum of public participation levels ranging from informing to empowering people in decisions that affect their lives.

The framework will:

  • Guide how the City designs, plans, and implements engagement with the community.

  • Provide clear criteria for when the City will seek public participation in a decision and when it will inform the public about a decision.

  • Provide a consistent approach to how the City engages with community members.

  • Foster inclusiveness to increase participation from diverse voices.

  • Provide staff with tools and resources to plan engagement processes that allow for diverse and meaningful opportunities to participate in decision-making.

The engagement survey, events, and meetings will provide valuable public input to support the development of the City’s Community Engagement Framework along with best practices research and staff/Council feedback.

What is Community Engagement?

Well-planned and authentic community engagement supports informed decision-making and better outcomes; ensures members of the public are connected to the municipal decision-making process; fosters trust in local government; and helps meet City priorities to be open and transparent and build a vibrant City.

Project Timeline

Engagement opened with the launch of the survey on June 4, 2024 and continued until July 30, 2024. For additional details, please refer to the Project Timeline section to the right.

Level of Engagement - Consult

The engagement for this project is at the "consult" level of the International Association for Public Participation's (IAP2) Spectrum of Public Participation. This means that we will obtain public feedback on analysis, alternatives, and/or decision. We will also keep you informed, listen to and acknowledge concerns and aspirations, and provide feedback on how public input influenced the decision.
