Improving Access to Parks & Recreation Space
As part of the Recreation Facility Feasibility Study the City is planning to relocate the two baseball fields that are currently at Hammond Community Park to a new stadium-style ballpark at the Maple Ridge Golf Course. The golf course is a City-owned property that is currently leased to an operator.
Hammond Community Park does not have sufficient space to accommodate the two existing baseball fields and the proposed new facility and amenities. The Maple Ridge Golf Course site is designated as park space in the Official Community Plan. Given Maple Ridge's current population of more than 106,000 residents and plans for increased housing development in west Maple Ridge, increased multi-use recreation park space has become a priority. The transformation of the golf course into a community park will take place over multiple phases:

Last updated:Background
The 40-acre Maple Ridge Golf Course site has been intended for public park and recreation space since the City purchased it in 1971.
The transition of this City-owned site into publicly accessible, multi-use recreation park space has become critical, given recent provincially-led zoning changes and plans for the Lougheed Transit Corridor Area, that will lead to more homes in west Maple Ridge and increased demand for recreational and other City services.
The preliminary design concept and site plan for the new Hammond recreation facility demonstrates that the Hammond Community Park has limited space to accommodate the two existing baseball fields, an aquatics facility, and parking. A new smaller baseball field will be developed as part of the redevelopment of Hammond Community Park to ensure continued community and user group access to baseball facilities for younger ages.
